ABOUT ME

Because of the inter-disciplinary focus of public policy, my research interest relates to several disciplines including public administration, public policy, public health, political science, and economics. My focus is on the implementation of policies and policy evaluation.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
Food and Obesity Policy
Obesity is my primary research interest. I'm interested in what policies could work for obesity prevention, including feasibility and effectiveness. My three dissertation papers focus on the bureaucratic policies of implementing the national menu labeling mandate, local health department's obesity policies, and the effect of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) on healthy eating behaviors.

Welfare Programs
Welfare programs are critical to populations in need, yet entitlement rules vary throughout the states. I focus on the welfare generosity of each state and how that relates to health outcomes.

I'm interested in what can policy makes do to influence the choice architecture.
Other Health Topics
Although my current focus in on obesity, I'm interested in many health topics, including but not limited to tobacco, HIV/AIDS prevention, and the opioid crisis.
